Head of Engineering @ Zamana
Zamana is an AI shopping assistant that lives on iMessage, building for the US market. Recently launched, backed by a $6.5M seed round. Small, exceptionally high-talent team (several engineers turned down offers from frontier labs; one was the 8th employee at Replit).
This is the next critical hire — the person who sets the engineering culture and makes sure the wheels stay on as the founders move fast.
The role
- Bottom-line responsibility for delivery. The founders generate ideas fast; you make sure they get built — well, and at pace.
- Deeply hands-on. This is an IC-leader role, not a manager-of-managers. You will write code every day. (We've been burned before by a leader who couldn't be an IC — never again.)
- Set the engineering bar, mentor a small team (capping at ~10–13 people through year-end), and own architecture and quality.
- Work the same hours the founders do. High intensity, high ownership.
What we're looking for
- 7–12 years of engineering experience; strong IC who has also led.
- Has built and run agentic / LLM systems at scale — not a research/ML-modeling role, but someone who has shipped real products on top of LLMs.
- Consumer-scale DNA — has seen serious scale at a top consumer company (think Razorpay / Zerodha / Hotstar / Flipkart-at-peak calibre).
- Opinionated and product-minded, but above all extremely diligent. We don't want divas; we want brilliant, kind, relentless people.
- Genuinely bought into what Zamana is building.
Stack
Node.js / TypeScript, Bun, Drizzle, Fastify, Redis, Elasticsearch. LLMs via AWS Bedrock (Claude Opus is the primary in-app agent), GCP for processing. Standard modern stack — what matters is judgment, not specific tools.
Logistics
- In-person in Gurgaon (Sushant Lok). If you don't already live nearby, we'll cover rent for a place close to the office.
- Willing to consider hybrid (spend some time every month in GGN) for exceptional talent.
- High intensity, founder-mode environment.
